[Success Secret Sauce] Series 6/8 Your Success in Faith and Fear

What tools are you using to engage and ensure change is AWESOME?

I love—no I really mean love—the word FEAR! Several years back I heard an acronym of the word, and ever since then have fallen in love with fear.

What is fear? False | Evidence | Appearing | Real

If things go wrong do not go with them! Stand tall in faith, because tomorrow is another day toward formulating your secret sauce for success.

So now you know that fear is false evidence that our minds appear to make real. Most of us are in sales one way or another, and what is the number one thing we do to create relationships? It’s those dreaded phone calls! People are afraid of the phone, because they are creating a false fear of rejection and of hearing the word NO. But here’s the scariest part: What do you do when you get a YES!!!

Don’t get me wrong. I believe that there are healthy fears, like not standing too close to the edge of a cliff without proper safety gear. However, creating your secret sauce to success has a dash of healthy fear and faith in your ability.

“Fear creates a barrier towards action and discipline in reaching your potential. When you spend energy in fear, you have wasted an opportunity. “Fear not that your life will come to an end, but that it will never have a beginning” ~ J.H.Newman.

Focusing on what we can control brings a healthy expectation and perception of fear. There are so many people, places, and things not in your control, so stop worrying and being fearful of an outcome you have no part of. Mark Twain states this so well, “I’ve been through some terrible things in my life, a few of which actually happened.”

5 Ways to Authentic Leadership

Authentic leadership is moving past the paralysis of perfection; keep moving forward with intentional belief success is yours. When I coach executives and teams on projects, 99% of the time what is holding them back to gleaning extraordinary success is the mindset of perfection. I call this the paralysis of perfection; you remain the same and glean the same results because you are unable to move forward.

Waiting for perfection often leaves you at the starting gate in the paralysis of EVERYTHING and EVERYONE must be perfect before you start. My advice to you, start even if it is ugly!

Life is not a straight line from start to finish; you have stop signs, obstacles, distractions, and tall buildings to climb toward your finish line to success. When living your authentic-self doors of opportunity you did not see before will appear. . . now which one will you choose? Below are guidelines to moving forward without perfection and finding the door(s) of opportunity you seek.

5 Ways to Authentic Leadership (Self)

Potential: Keep compounding interest (knowledge) on your strengths through coaching, educational opportunities, and mentoring others.
1. Gifts and Strengths; when you compound knowledge you become the ‘wisdom’ expert in your field.
2. Weakness; address weakness, be aware of them but do not dwell in weakness. Know what you’re potential and delegate area’s you do not excel in.
What You Want: Knowing what you want and understanding the belief “I can’t” simple does not exist if you are moving in and toward your potential. Everything is obtainable within your gifts, talents, and strengths. Yes, everything is obtainable within your gifts, talents, and strengths with the right attitude!
Character of Achievement: Character is your solid-foundation in supporting sustainable success. Authentic leadership (self) is your self-image and belief you can move toward your goals and finish with celebrated success.
Perfection: Your beliefs, dreams, passions, and growth to your desired goal. Perfection is who you are right now; this is the celebrated success of your perfection!
Celebration: If you love what you are doing, you are NOT willing to lose it.
1. Celebrate Wins: if you have a goal of closing 20 clients and 3 have signed. This is a time to celebrate the 3! These clients deserve your best in attitude and achievement of 3! And 3 is better than 0.
2. Celebrate Losses: taking time to learn and glean from losses creates bigger wins for tomorrow.

Authentic leadership is staying in love with what you love and allowing it ignites others; remember when you are living and celebrating your unique self; everyone wants what you are having.

Law of Character is the solid foundation to your life and life stance. Core of your character is your values, beliefs, experiences, and set points. Your dominate thoughts is what you will attract or detract from your success. Be firm with yourself by creating a solid-foundation of belief!

Law of the Lid is the limitation of achieving higher than you can today. A lid inhibits your ability to be more tomorrow than you are today. What self-limiting belief are you stating to be true? See yourself where you want to be and delete the truths you no longer need or want to hold true.

Law of Perfection is your beliefs, dreams, passion, and growth. Through humble learning you can find ‘perfection’ in your purpose, desires, passions, dreams, and value. Perfection is the truth you hold true and set new truths toward your success. Do not wait for ‘perfection’ as the world sees it, step forward without knowing the next step because life is messy and to achieve Authentic Leadership you must model perfection of not knowing ‘everything’ before moving forward. Step out of the paralysis of perceived perfection and move into your perfection of belief!

Law of Celebration is unfolding a more meaningful and greater expression of your leadership purpose. Success is staying in love with what you love and allowing it to ignite others to their authentic leadership style. Remember, when you are living and celebrating your authentic self; “they want what you are having.” If you love it, you are not willing to lose it.

Reflection Leads To Purpose

Reflection and purpose are not a usual combination when writing about Leadership, and most importantly leadership of self.

The top 1% of entrepreneurs take time daily to sit in silent reflection and think into their business, life, teams, families, projects, etc. . . bringing about pro-active success vs. re-active chaos.

In a previous post I wrote about your gifts, talents, and strengths and this is where you have the ability to take the time to stay on purpose for the things you were created to do. This is on of my favorite statements and profoundly when I take time in my daily agenda I do stay on purpose toward personal and team goals.

As John C. Maxwell shares with us The Law of Reflection, I find this is the lesson to dig deep if you are going to win big! Clarity found in reflection brings the habit of evaluating experience (wins and fails) to a higher awareness of next steps toward success. Below are example of the power of pausing and reflection for yourself and your team :

Reflection turns experience into insight
Everyone needs a time and place to pause
Pausing with intention expands and enriches thinking
When you take time to pause, use your I’s (Investigation, Incubation, Illumination, Illustration)
Good questions are thee heart of reflection (become that “kid” who asks WHY

WHY is the power tool in your leadership tool kit. Honestly, I have never grown out of asking why to myself and also in the board-room. Why is the most powerful tool because we dig so deep into awareness and intention the ‘aha moments become addictive. The addiction is not a bad word here but you must be careful in how you ask WHY because it is attached to ego which is reflective of our emotions, motives, and accountability. When you start asking why people on your team will embrace it or hate it! I believe if our corporate culture asked more WHY organizations would not have or continue to fail their own mission, vision, and ultimately fail their customers.

I remember a story explorer Albert Schwetizer shared. On a long journey through Africa their group was pushing hard to reach their final destination. During this trip all of the natives with their group stopped, just stopped. Albert inquired about the delay and the response is priceless; we have been traveling so fast they must rest to let their souls catch up with them.

Reflection allows your mind, heart, body, and soul to align and let your purpose catch up to the things you were created to do.

Is Your Leadership Underwear Clean?

Yes, is your underwear clean?

For generations the mothers in my family asked the children before leaving for school, “Do you have on clean underwear?” Or, “Make sure you have clean underwear on in case you get into an accident.”

I am not sure anything is clean after an accident and what underwear has to do with it . . . but my mind evolved from clean underwear to asking “is your leadership heart clean”?

The heart of a leader sustains life of an organization. Here are a few areas’ to reflect on your Clean Leadership Heart:

Are you intentional in growing yourself, others, and organization?
- Education, Innovation, Space for Creativity
Are you helping others UP the ladder?
- Mentoring, Modeling
Do you allow others and yourself to get dirty?
