Summer 2017 Series Episode 2

How did you do last week implementing a few words, keeping the main thing the main thing, and creating measurable goals?

Here are a few things to consider to create a circle of sustainable referral sources:

  1. Connect & Serve
    • By phone, coffee, lunch, golf; whatever or wherever you are connecting with people ask them deeper questions about them.
    • Where ever you show up, show up to serve.
      • What are they most passionate about in their career?
      • What are they most passionate about at home?
      • What are they most passionate about in their community?
        • Listen to case study on video.
  2. Add Value
    • Now you have gleaned a few nuggets of passion from those you are connecting with, follow up with some of these ideas.
      • Send an article of interest (mail, email, or drop off in person).
      • Tag them in social media on something they are passionate about.
      • Special event, surgery, or milestone; send a card, call or text.
      • Invite them to an event to introduce them to people they need to know.
  3. Law of Reciprocation (Circle Of)
    • Connection and adding value ALWAYS brings something of equal or greater value to you.
    • Timing of reciprocation is unknown and it is measurable.
      • Referrals are reciprocation.
      • People sharing your name and/or brand.
      • Opportunities to serve is reciprocation.
        • Tight Circle: I call this the quick turn around reciprocation.
        • Wave Circle: Longer to accumulate but higher dividends. I imagine a wave going out to sea grabbing more volume, lifting opportunities. into the air and gently bringing them to your shore of success.

Remember, what you are passionate about is a calling. Challenge this week is to connect, add value, look for the Law of Reciprocation and give praise.

Thank you for joining me on our Summer Fire It Up Friday Series.

What tools are you using to engage and ensure change is AWESOME?

I love—no I really mean love—the word FEAR! Several years back I heard an acronym of the word, and ever since then have fallen in love with fear.

What is fear?  False | Evidence | Appearing | Real

Fear Tracy Worley

If things go wrong do not go with them! Stand tall in faith, because tomorrow is another day toward formulating your secret sauce for success.

So now you know that fear is false evidence that our minds appear to make real. Most of us are in sales one way or another, and what is the number one thing we do to create relationships? It’s those dreaded phone calls! People are afraid of the phone, because they are creating a false fear of rejection and of hearing the word NO. But here’s the scariest part: What do you do when you get a YES!!!

Don’t get me wrong. I believe that there are healthy fears, like not standing too close to the edge of a cliff without proper safety gear. However, creating your secret sauce to success has a dash of healthy fear and faith in your ability.

“Fear creates a barrier towards action and discipline in reaching your potential. When you spend energy in fear, you have wasted an opportunity. “Fear not that your life will come to an end, but that it will never have a beginning” ~ J.H.Newman.

Focusing on what we can control brings a healthy expectation and perception of fear. There are so many people, places, and things not in your control, so stop worrying and being fearful of an outcome you have no part of. Mark Twain states this so well, “I’ve been through some terrible things in my life, a few of which actually happened.”

It is a privilege to share this time with you, and I hope to walk alongside you in your Secret Success Sauce journey.

Your greatest asset is your attitude and it is the base Asset Tracy Worleyingredient to your Secret Success Sauce.

Attitude is not a set strength or gift; it is a choice. Attitude is the only thing you have complete control over on a second by second basis. When I was downsized in 2011, my first reaction was not anger. It was, “What do I have in place to keep moving forward?”

The first step to creating success through your attitude is to take responsibility for it. Attitude does not come from our circumstances, history, or others. Attitude comes from within; you are made of the sum from the inside out. Reflecting within is key to identifying and relating to any of your relationships. Where are they blaming others for circumstances; where in reality the outcome came from choice.

The second area to evaluate is where you are now in your relationships and perhaps barriers to your goals. Personal evaluation is not to condemn where you are today, but to become aware and make different choices. How we feel and view ourselves often relates to how we relate and think of others. Attitude truly is the solid foundation to your Secret Success Sauce.

When evaluation occurs in an honest and nurturing way, your growth to change becomes easy. Perseverance does not seem as hard, and the tenacious nature it takes to stand your ground will give confident freedom in becoming who you were meant to be and who you are meant to serve.

The biggest question is: Are you going to keep working and trying to get better, or is this as good as it gets?

You are not what you think you are, but what you think…you are.

The last step toward an AWESOME attitude is discipline in your agenda. Yes, the things that make up your daily calendar are the choices you are willing to make. Again, reflection is part of gaining back your day and doing what you need to do in planned action vs. others unplanned reaction.

Attitude is the difference maker to opening doors you did not see before, and it helps overcome obstacles and reality shifts you did not ask for. In 2011 I had a choice to be angry, bitter, frozen, and paralyzed from losing my job, but my choice was to thrive despite someone else’s decision for my reality and future.

Choose to thrive!

Are you a difference maker or a mood breaker? We all know someone who walks into the room and the mood changes from “life” to “silent LiftingUp Tracy Worleyhiding”. Why? No one wants to talk to this person because they are the life sucker who not only takes, but also puts you down and keeps you there.

What is your secret sauce to being a difference maker in your life?

In 2006 I had an incredible opportunity to not only chair our Employee Ownership Stock Program, but also to create the leadership training content for all employee owners to experience and learn. One of the resources I brought in was written by John C. Maxwell, The Difference Maker. What makes you a Difference Maker? It is simply your attitude.

I write, speak, and teach attitude often, as this is the one thing you have control over. Only you can make the decision about how you are going to enter and leave the room. How you are entering and leaving conversations? But most importantly, how do you make people feel? Everyone remembers how you made them feel over and above all other things you give them.

“Your attitude colors very aspect of your life. It is like the mind’s paintbrush; you see the world as you are!”

Here are some areas to consider for reflection and change toward making the difference you desire from The Difference Maker:

  • Personality – Who You Are
    • Everyone is uniquely made. When you live in the comparison gap of others this is a mood breaker.
  • Environment – Who and What is Around You
    • We are made up of the five people we spend the most time with.
    • Is it time to have courageous conversation and create a necessary ending?
  • Others – What You Feel
    • Hurt people hurt people.
    • Positive words have an extraordinary impact.
  • Self-Image – How You See Yourself
    • This is how you see others.
    • Labels apply to boundaries and actions.
  • Beliefs – Judgement
    • What you think.
  • Choices – Action
    • What you do.

“Every thought you have shapes your life. What you think about your neighbor is your attitude toward him. The way you think about your job is your attitude toward work. Your thoughts concerning your spouse, the people on the highway during rush hour, and the government create your attitude toward everything you think and apply is your attitude.” John C Maxwell

I am no longer with the organization where I transformed The Difference Maker into their curriculum, but I do have the pleasure of seeing many of those employees continue to grow and make a difference not only at work but in the community in which they live.

Coaching is one of my favorite things to do in my business because I have a front row seat to others launching to the next level. It is almost like watching the space shuttles take off: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1!  John Maxwell states , it is hard to improve when you have no one but yourself to follow

How Do You Learn to Skip Rocks? Modeling behavior is how we learn, the picture I share is of my husband, his brother, and nephew. This is a true example of modeling, practicing, and applying learned thought and movement toward success.

Modeling Tracy Worley

Hiring a mentor is finding someone who has gone the road before you. Practice what you teach! Currently I have several mentors where we would be considered peers but they are ahead of me in certain areas of business and life. Recently, one of my mentors helped me achieve a 441% increase in ROI of what I invested vs. new business. Below are personal numbers not to impress you but to impress upon you mentorship is worth every minute and application of study!

The past six months I have mentored  one client to 700% ROI as she launched her own agency. And most recently mentored a client to her first 5 figure contract which is a 400% ROI of mentorship investment.                                                                                                     ~ Tracy Worley (ROI based on coaching fees against new business.)

Studies following return on investment (ROI) from coaching:

Harvard Business Review did a study on ROI (return on investment) in hiring coaches and the return is not surprising to me but maybe to you. The study showed a 529% ROI for Executive Coaching.

  • Companies that offer training alone experience 22.4% increase in productivity, but when combined with coaching that figure rises to 88%.
  • A conservative estimate of the monetary payoff from coaching, according to Fortune magazine, managers describe an average return of more than six times the cost of coaching.
  • Companies who combine coaching with training increase employee productivity over 80%.
  • A Manchester, Inc. study in 2001 demonstrated a 7-fold return on investment from coaching.

Mentoring is not one sided growth you cannot receive without giving in return. When mentoring others your growth and awareness improves because you have applied your knowledge and then learning from your mentees new perspective.

“Are you committed, consistent, creative, purposeful, reflective, and grateful for those who went before you and poured wisdom into you? Being a mentor or mentee creates a synergy of sustainable success for organizational success.” (T.Worley)

“Raising up leaders is the truly self-less goal of every mentor leader, the culmination of focusing on others. To elevate your followers means to help them reach their God-given potential, even if it means preparing them to replace you. It may also mean that you prepare them to leave your organization for better opportunities elsewhere -perhaps even with your competitor.” (T.Dungy)

Take an honest inventory of where you were 5 years ago, today, and where you want to be 5 years from now. I can personally guarantee if you keep the inventory you have today, you will find yourself doing the same thing you have always done and more than likely always for someone else.

Mentoring

1.) Get Committed           4). Be Purposeful
2.) Be Consistent              5). Be Reflective
3.) Be Creative                   6). Be Grateful

Be teachable, be prepared, ask questions, demonstrate learning, be accountable

VISION – MISSON – VALUES = GUIDING LIGHT

How to Start: Do you know people who do what you’d like to do?

1.) Get Committed – If you have to, pay people for their time and advise.
2.) Be Consistent – Meet regularly with someone who can help you.
3.) Be Creative – Learn from people even if you can’t meet them.
4.) Be Purposeful – Prepare for every interaction: don’t wing it!
5.) Be Reflective – Reflect on each encounter and discover what you are learning.
6.) Be Grateful – ALWAYS show appreciation for what you are learning from others. (Mentors)

Check List To Finding A Mentor/Coach:

  • Selective: find someone who has same or like values, if there are red flags during your initial conversation the intuitive flag is there for a reason. Remember, who you spend time with directly reflects your attitude, action, and ability (what goes in comes out).
  • Availability: you must have access and availability to be actively mentored, ask questions, learn from their answers, and apply what your learned. Note: always apply what you learned to find your win/fail secret sauce!
  • Wisdom: a mentor/coach possess experience, knowledge, wins and fails in the area you are looking to be coached in. Wisdom comes from the experience and make sure they have the ability to mentor you to success. Remember, just because someone wins does not mean they have the ability to teach. .
  • Support: a great mentor provides friendship and support. Your mentor should care about your success over all else, unselfishly working to help you reach your potential.
  • Difference: a great mentor makes a difference in people’s lives, daily. “A ‘coach’ remains something, or someone, who carries a valued person from where they are to where they want to be.” ~ Kevin Hall

Ego: Competitive mindset pushing others down instead of lifting them up, you will be known by your actions more than your words “talk is cheap”

Great things happen whenever we stop seeing ourselves as God’s gift to others, and  begin seeing others as God’s gift to us.” ~ James Vuocolo

We all need people to help sharpen our gifts, talents, strengths, and navigate through problem areas.

ACTION: Make two lists. Then start searching for people with expertise in these areas who have wisdom, available, will support you and committed to making a difference in you life. Do not be discouraged as you seek mentors, keep looking and you will find the ones worth following.

  1. List strengths or skills you want to improve to reach your potential.
  2. List specific problem areas where you feel the need for ongoing guidance.
